[Monthly Special] Gyeonghuigung, the Korean Palace (2)

I thought there would be the Korean music concert again as usual in Gyeonghuigung, but there was no plan to perform their music show in Gyeonghuigung. It was strange, but I went to Gyeonghuigung to take some photos. Then, I found a really fantastic event! There was Kimchi Love Festival 2009 in Gyeonghuigung! Kimchi is a product that is fermented through lactic acid production at low temperatures to ensure proper ripening and preservation. It is processed with a seasoning mixture mainly consisting of red pepper powder, garlic, ginger, green onion and radish.

The history of Kimchi trace back to ancient Korea. It is the representative food of Korea. Also, it is really good for health. Fundamental ingredients are the vegetables which can make our bodies stronger and healthier. Kimchi could protect us from SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), and A(H1N1), which is known as the New Type of Influenza.

There were so many people in Kimchi Love Festival. There were several Kimchi and Makgeolri (Korean raw rice wine) samplings that we could eat and drink. Many booths introduced ingredients that are included in Kimchi. In Sungjungjun of Gyeonghuigung, there were 192 kinds of Kimchi that we could see. So many different kinds of kimchi were there, that not only foreigners but also Koreans were surprised because of beautifulness of Kimchi. Not only kimchi, there were a lot of things that we could enjoy like making royal or daily kimchi, and we could learn how to make great kimchi by Master of Kimchi.

Like this event, Kimchi Love Festival 2009 and Korean Music concerts performed by Dasrum, Gyeonghuigung is exactly Korean palace, which is not that well-known. Next to Gyeonghuigung , there is the Seoul Museum of History. Isn’t it the perfect place to enjoy Korea? You can enjoy real Korean things in Gyeonghuigung, I think.

99819Gyeonghuigung is the 271st Historic Sites which is located in Sinmunno 2(i)-ga, Jongno-gu. After Changgyeonggung had burned out, Injong, who was 12th king of Joseon, moved to Gyeonghuigung. That was the beginning of Kings’ staying in Gyeonghuigung. Gyeonghuigung got forced demolition, but now it is being restored.

Most people didn’t know about Gyeonghuigung, but more and more people know about it because of its special features. Gyeonghuigung is used as a place of performance. These days, there are some concerts in Gyeonghuigung that you can see in other places like stadiums or concerts. However, Gyeonghuigung is a very special place for special performances. Korean Musical “MeongseongWanghu” was  I’ve been there last week, and it was amazing because you can listen to Korean Music in Korean Palace. I felt like being a King of Korea. Not only royal music, there were popular music too, so we could enjoy music together with performers. That’s the biggest characteristic of Korean music as I think; Enjoy with performers by hailing each other.

performed in Gyeonghuigung from May 4th, 2008 to May 13th, 2008. Also “Dasrum”, the Women’s Korean Music Chamber Orchestra, has been performing their special concerts in Gyeonghuigung each year.

The Day Of United Nations

Each year, the 24th of October is called “United Nations Day”

[tweetmeme source=”Jaehoonkorea” http://wp.me/pF4H6-J]

United Nations, as known as UN, is an organization which is founded for preventing wars and keeping peace. It is organized in San Francisco, USA.

So, there was an event for celebrating UN Day in EWHA WOMANS UNIVERSITY.

We could meet the vice secretary-general of UN, participate in Quiz Show, visit booths of other countries which are in UN. Also we could listen to Hymn to the United Nations.

Actually photos on the Gallery (above this passage) are not taken in EWHA WOMANS UNIVERSITY. They’re the pictures in front of Sejong Center.

There were about a hundred of photos in front of Sejong Center. It was mainly about Korean War. UN helped us get the power to turn North Korea away, and they dispatched troops, gave South Koreans a lot of aid.

That’s why the UN Day is especially special to South Korea.

I felt little sad because there was a sentence, and that means “Korea is still a cease-fire country. We have to protect our country with lucid country mind and security mind” Everyone knows that Korea is a truce country. However, Koreans are not that afraid of War, they feel safe. Yes, that could sound weird, but I think that the Reunification of North and South Korea will come soon. And I Hope It Will.
