[Monthly Special] Gyeonghuigung, the Korean Palace (1)

99819Gyeonghuigung is the 271st Historic Sites which is located in Sinmunno 2(i)-ga, Jongno-gu. After Changgyeonggung had burned out, Injong, who was 12th king of Joseon, moved to Gyeonghuigung. That was the beginning of Kings’ staying in Gyeonghuigung. Gyeonghuigung got forced demolition, but now it is being restored.

 Most people didn’t know about Gyeonghuigung, but more and more people know about it because of its special features. Gyeonghuigung is used as a place of performance. These days, there are some concerts in Gyeonghuigung that you can see in other places like stadiums or concerts. However, Gyeonghuigung is a very special place for special performances. Korean Musical “MeongseongWanghu” was  I’ve been there last week, and it was amazing because you can listen to Korean Music in Korean Palace. I felt like being a King of Korea. Not only royal music, there were popular music too, so we could enjoy music together with performers. That’s the biggest characteristic of Korean music as I think; Enjoy with performers by hailing each other.

performed in Gyeonghuigung from May 4th, 2008 to May 13th, 2008. Also “Dasrum”, the Women’s Korean Music Chamber Orchestra, has been performing their special concerts in Gyeonghuigung each year.
